Warning About Losing The Fear Of The Lord: Demas Loved The World

29. Warning About Losing The Fear Of The Lord: Demas Loved The World

2 Timothy 4:10 — “Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me.”

1 John 2:15 — “Do not love the world nor the things in the world.”

Demas did not abandon Christ in a single dramatic moment. He drifted. The world slowly became more attractive than devotion to Jesus. This is how many believers stumble. Rarely is there an immediate collapse; usually there is a gradual cooling of affection for Christ.

The fear of the Lord keeps eternity near. It reminds us that this world is passing away and that Christ alone is worthy of complete devotion. Reverence weakens the attraction of temporary things.

    • Worldliness grows where reverence weakens.
    • Small compromises accumulate.
    • Eternal vision protects the heart.

What this does in the life of a Christ follower:

    • Creates vigilance against worldliness.
    • Strengthens eternal priorities.
    • Deepens affection for Christ.

    How to avoid this:

    • Evaluate what captures your attention.
    • Invest in eternal things.
    • Keep Christ central in daily life.

    Prayer:

Father, guard me from loving the world more than Your Son. Help me see temporary things through eternal eyes. Let my heart remain fixed on Jesus and not be drawn away by passing attractions. Amen.
