Luke 1:30–31 (NASB)
“And the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a Son, and you shall name Him Jesus.’”
Devotional Thought:
Mary, an unknown girl from Nazareth, received the world’s greatest announcement. God’s favor rests not on status but on surrender. Gratitude deepens when we realize that the Savior’s name, Jesus, means “the Lord saves.”
Three Comments:
- Gratitude sees God’s favor as His grace, not our merit.
- The name Jesus declares both His mission and His mercy.
- God delights to use ordinary people for extraordinary purposes.
Poem – “The Name Jesus”
A young girl hears the word,
Do not be afraid,
Favor has found her life,
The Lord has chosen her,
Jesus will be born.
The name carries salvation,
The mission is redemption,
The plan is divine love,
The child is God’s gift,
The hope of the world.
Gratitude whispers His name,
Joy clings to His promise,
Faith rests in His mercy,
Love welcomes His coming,
The Savior is near.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that You chose Mary to bear Your Son, proving that You use the humble and ordinary. Thank You for the name Jesus, the Lord who saves.
Help me to respond with faith like Mary, trusting in Your favor and surrendering to Your will. May gratitude fill my heart each time I speak His holy name.
