Poem: Built on the Rock
The winds rise wild against the walls.
The earth shakes under trembling feet.
But your rock holds the broken place.
Your fortress sings against the storms.
Your shield wraps around my heart.
The arrows fly across the skies.
The doubts sink deep into the ground.
But you pull me higher than the noise.
You carve a hiding place with your hand.
You build a shelter I cannot lose.
My arms grow tired of fighting winds.
My voice grows small against the roar.
But you lift my head with gentle fire.
You bend your ear to my cry.
You strengthen my soul to stand.
The rivers flood the valley roads.
The night blots out the trusted trails.
But you open doors through heavy seas.
You clear the dust from tired eyes.
You set my feet on solid ground.
Today I call you my fortress, God.
Today I run into your open gates.
You are the rock under my fear.
You are the shield over my heart.
You are the song that holds me still.
