12/03 – The Light in the Darkness

Isaiah 9:6 (NASB)
“For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”

Devotional Thought:
A world in darkness was promised light through a Child, a Son, a King. The names of Jesus reveal His majesty: wisdom, power, eternity, peace. Gratitude stirs as we remember the Child in the manger is the God who reigns forever.

Three Comments:

  1. Gratitude rejoices that Jesus is both the Child born and the Son given.
  2. His names reveal His nature: He is both tender and mighty.
  3. Gratitude bows before the King whose shoulders carry all rule.

Poem – “The Names of the Child”
The Child rests in the straw,
But power rests on His shoulders,
Counsel flows from His lips,
Peace shines from His presence,
Eternity lives in His name.

Mighty God in weakness,
Prince of Peace in conflict,
Wonderful Counselor in confusion,
Eternal Father in care,
The Son given to us.

Gratitude whispers His names,
Joy rests in His reign,
Peace bows at His throne,
Hope sings in His birth,
The King is here.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that You are the Child born and the Son given. You are Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Teach me to treasure Your names, for each one reveals who You are for me. May gratitude fill me today as I worship the King born for us.
