Philippian Servant
I was there and it was real
Commerce and joy, hurt and pain
Food was plentiful unlike the other provinces
There were always stores where I could shop.
Rumors flew of war and economics
Rome was never as helpful as it hurt
Leaders always had more than we did
They knew exactly what we needed.
One night they jailed these Christians from Ephesus
They had talked of a God who cared
The only gods I had known hated me
I could never do what they demanded.
Walking down a street by the jail
I heard them singing songs
Praising their God for all He did
Thanking Him for loving them so.
I told my mate about these things
She said she had heard them too
They talked of freedom, joy and hope
We wish it could be true.
In the middle of the night the earth shook
Throwing us from our mat
We heard all the screaming
People running to and fro.
The jailer was a friend
He told us all that happened
About how the Lord had saved him
He shared God’s love for him.
Everything changed that day
We gave Jesus our hearts
He gave us love and purpose
I am His forevermore.
